System Safety Society Liaisons to Other Professional Organizations

Government Electronic Industries Association (G-48) System Safety Committee of SAE International

The G-48 System Safety Committee promotes the development of safe systems, products, and processes by compiling, developing, improving, and publishing best practices in the discipline of System Safety.Best practices in System Safety that are the subject of the G-48 Committee's work are not exclusive to any one domain. They are applicable to hardware, software, human, and environmental aspects of systems for government, commercial, military, aerospace, transportation, industrial, and the medical field. The G-48 Committee holds three regular meetings per year. The System Safety Society is considered a liaison organization to the G-48 Committee. The System Safety Society President (or his/her designee) represents the Society at G-48 meetings and provides reports on Society activities.

Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP)

BCSP is recognized as the leader in high-quality credentialing for safety, health, and environmental practitioners. They establish standards for and verify competency in professional safety practice and evaluate certificants for compliance with recertification requirements. BCSP also operates technician, technologist, and supervisory SH&E certifications that provide additional career paths for safety practitioners.

Since 1969, over 40,000 individuals have achieved the CSP, ASP, OHST, CHST, STS, STSC or CET credential. BCSP is a not-for-profit corporation chartered in Illinois, with headquarters in Champaign. BCSP holds national accreditation.

The System Safety Society has been a sponsoring organization of the Board of Certified Safety Professionals since 1977. The System Safety Society nominates safety professionals to serve as a Director of BCSP. As a sponsoring organization, the System Safety Society endorses the process used to evaluate basic professional safety competency.

Reliability and Maintainability Symposium

The Annual Reliability and Maintainability Symposium is sponsored by ten professional societies. The System Safety Society has a seat on the Symposium's Board of Directors. Mr.Gary Braman () represents the System Safety Society at these meetings.
